![]() Health CareWorkforce UpdatesMarch 2023Update from the Regional Consortium on Health Care Workforce As we collectively recover from the pandemic, we are encouraged by new funding and strengthening partnerships across our community to address critical workforce shortages, develop new entryways into health care professions, and build career pathways for advancement. FLPPS is currently leading two new initiatives:
As the Regional Consortium on Health Care Workforce, we aim to share information and connect partners in opportunities to bolster the health care workforce. HRSA funding available for advanced practice nurse training The purpose of the Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) Program is to increase the number of primary care nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and certified nurse midwives trained and prepared to provide primary care services, mental health and substance use disorder care, and/or maternal health care. Grants will support the training and graduation of advanced practice registered nursing (APRN) students/trainees in these disciplines. An informational webinar will be held on March 9 at 3 - 4:30 p.m. Applications are due April 7. Applications are open for the National Health Service Corps loan repayment program The application window for three National Health Service Corps (NHSC) loan repayment programs is open until April 25. Save the dates and call for speakers - Eleversity's Women of Color Summit Save the dates: The 2023 Women of Color Summit will be held at virtually at 9 - 11:30 a.m. on July 20, 27, and August 3. This year's theme is I.C.U. - Intentionality, Commitment, and Urgency: Pushing the Needle Forward and Upward. This summit will provide an uplifting environment for, by and about women of color that promotes equity, education and professional development. Rochester Business Journal to host virtual diversity, equity and inclusion summit On March 15 at 8:30 - 11 a.m., The Rochester Business Journal will host Building a Business Community that Creates Equity. The keynote address will be delivered by Julio Jordan, director of diversity, equity, justice and inclusion at Ibero-American Action League. At the summit businesses will learn the importance of adopting diverse practices and creating a diverse culture that will help them become better community leaders, attract strong talent, and develop innovative ideas and practices. Caring for the Care Economy webinar to be hosted by Nonprofit Quarterly On March 15 at 2 p.m., Nonprofit Quarterly will host Caring for the Care Economy to discuss how workers in the caregiving sector can come together to organize - and counter the tendency of the nation’s economy to devalue care work that is intrinsic to our survival. Suicide prevention workshop offered for rural providers The UR Medicine Recovery Center of Excellence, with funding from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) partnered with SafeSide Prevention to provide a free workshop focused on suicide prevention training for service providers in rural communities. Content is designed for service providers in rural communities, with highlights on suicide prevention for youth, substance use, and Indigenous or Tribal communities. Workshops are offered at noon - 3:30 p.m. on March 21, May 23 and July 25. March of Dimes offers e-course on bias in maternal health care Brought to you by the March of Dimes and Excellus, the Awareness to Action: Dismantling Bias in Maternal and Infant Healthcare e-course provides authentic, compelling content for health care providers caring for women before, during and after pregnancy. They offer implicit bias training to increase awareness and stimulate action to address implicit bias in maternity care settings. The e-course is available until March 21. St. John Fisher to host diversity in the workplace conference St. John Fisher University will host an in-person Diversity in the Workplace conference on March 30 at 9-5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Rochester Downton. Participants will share best practices, engage in cross-industry discussions, and preview DEI and workforce related research in order to impact our community. Tickets are $55. Click here to register. Chamber offers Fundamentals of Diversity series Greater Rochester Chamber is offering Fundamentals of Diversity. Sessions will be held on April 12, 19 and 26 at 8 - 9:30 a.m. This training builds knowledge and skills toward creating a strong and sustainable climate of inclusion in your organization. This series will be offered again in June. SUNY Corning Community College offers workforce training resources SUNY CCC’s Workforce Education & Academic Pathways (WEAP) Team offers a variety of professional development and training programs. Non-profit Management training will be offered on Thursdays at 9 a.m. - noon between April 13 and June 15 via oom. This training is designed for staff seeking to transition into a managerial capacity, new supervisors, and supervisors seeking to improve their effectiveness. The cost is $675. Monroe County Medical Society offers medical practice front desk training Medical Practice Front Desk Success will be presented virtually on April 12 at 1 - 4 p.m. This basic-level course explains the scope of medical front office operations. Participants will learn how their connection with patients can have dramatic results, and how to relay financial policies and maintain security standards. Difficult communication scenarios and practice workflow challenges will also be addressed. Save the date - Understanding and Improving Healthcare Quality and National Healthcare Policy - Cracking the Code on Healthcare event to be held June 9 Is it safe to get healthcare? If yes, why do over a quarter of a million people die each year from medical errors? Do patients really understand the risks, how quality is measured and what each patient needs to do to be safe and keep others safe? What is the National Healthcare Strategy and what are the implications of the mid-term elections and near-term elections? Join hundreds of local healthcare leaders coming together from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 9 at the DoubleTree Rochester to network, learn about these topics, and be inspired by some of the smartest, most innovative, provocative National Healthcare Thought Leaders in the nation.
