Health CareWorkforce UpdatesAugust 2021Lifespan offers gerontology certificate program Lifespan's 80-hour gerontology certificate program begins on September 8. This certificate is designed for anyone interested in furthering a career or gaining knowledge about longevity and aging. Participants can take the whole course or units of interest. Courses are held over Zoom on Wednesdays at 4-6:30 PM. Continuing education credits are available for licensed social workers. Behavioral health integration symposium series scheduled Registration is open for UR Medicine's 6th annual behavioral health integration symposium webinar series. Sessions will be held at 12-2:30 PM on September 17, 24, October 1 and 8. Covered topics include suicide prevention, stigma, mental health and substance use. Save the date: Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center's 35th annual conference Spanning the Continuum of Care: Innovations in Geriatric Health Practice will be held on September 24 via Zoom. Continuing education credits will be available for MD, DO, PA, NP and LMSW/LCSW. Thompson Health CNA training program begins September 21 In partnership with Finger Lakes Community College, Thompson Health is offering a 5-week certified nursing assistant training program. Classes are scheduled Mondays-Fridays 8 AM-4 PM. Thompson Health will cover full tuition and participants receive payment during training. It is required that all successful course participants remain employed by the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center – in a full- or part-time position – for at least one year from certification. HRSA workforce funding opportunities available Funding is available from HRSA's Bureau of Health Workforce to plan, develop, operate or participate in health professions training activities using evidence-based strategies to address burnout and promote resiliency among the health workforce in rural and underserved communities. Contribute to the Public Health Forward survey Public Health Forward, a partnership between the de Beaumont Foundation, the Bipartisan Policy Center and national public health partners seeks to develop a five-year roadmap for the field. You can provide your views on how to build a more robust and sustainable public health system. Improving nurses' health through Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation The Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation Grand Challenge is designed to transform the health of the nation by improving the health of the nation's 4 million registered nurses. This initiative connects and engages nurses and employers around improving physical activity, nutrition, rest, quality of life and safety.
