University at Albany receives HRSA funding for public health scholarships

The University at Albany School of Public Health has received $1.5 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to enhance the public health workforce, with a special focus on preparing individuals to address health disparities and social determinants of health, especially in underserved populations.

The funding comes from HRSA’s Public Health Scholarship Program, which supports 29 organizations to develop scholarships that encourage students to pursue public health education and careers. At the School of Public Health, the grant supports the development of the University at Albany Strengthening the Public Health Workforce Scholarship Program (SPHWSP), a 3-year initiative that will provide students accepted into this program with a scholarship that covers full tuition and fees, a specialized certificate program (either in health disparities or maternal and child health), a seminar series, and career services support.

Applications are currently open for the Fall 2023 SPHWSP. The application deadline is January 15, 2023.

Questions about the program can be directed to mrjacome@albany.edu or to sphadmissions@albany.edu.
