Essential worker childcare scholarships available

NYS Office of Children and Family Services is administering $25M in funds for childcare support for children of essential workers. Child care costs will be paid up to market rate for each region statewide for essential staff whose income is less than 300% of the federal poverty level. Funds are available for care for children aged 6 weeks through 12 years.

Public hearing on nursing home and assisted living workforce scheduled

The NYS Senate is holding a public hearing on nursing home and assisted living workforce at 10 AM July 20. Oral testimony is by invitation only but the event will be livestreamed.

Loan repayment applications are open

The National Health Service Corps has opened its application for the Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery (STAR) Loan Repayment Program. Applications are accepted though July 22, 2021. Click here to apply.

 

NYS conducting employed caregiver survey

NYS Office for the Aging, Department of Labor and Department of Health are asking employers to distribute a caregiving survey to their employees. The purpose of this survey is to identify how many employees are caregiving for loved ones and to assess caregiving intensity to connect employees to supports and information.

Chamber offers training on diversity, equity and inclusion strategy

The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce is offering Colors of Success: Stay the course: How to keep your DEI strategy on track. Colors of Success is an introductory series on diversity, equity and inclusion which will inform, inspire and encourage organizations to improve workplace equity.

The session will be led by three local DEI experts, Dr. Dee Kimbrel, Talethea Best and Sarah Bettman from 11 AM - 12 PM on July 20.

NYSPHA webinar scheduled on health literacy and cross cultural communication

New York State Public Health Association is offering a webinar titled "Respect: Health literacy and cross cultural communication." Presented by Karen Brown, MA and Ednita Wright, Ph.D, LCSW, CASAC, this webinar will describe the link between cross cultural communication and health literacy and will help participants understand how to communicate more effectively with patients/clients. CHES and CPH credits are included. 

The webinar is scheduled from 12 - 1 PM on July 21.

Rural emergency department behavioral services webinar scheduled

UR Medicine's Recovery Center of Excellence is offering a webinar about the Behavioral Health Assessment Officer (BHAO) model and its implementation at emergency departments in rural New York State. The BHAO model is a strategy to increase mental health and substance use disorder resources in rural emergency departments without a psychiatrist onsite.

The webinar is scheduled from 11 AM to 12 PM August 10.

MCC is planning health care operations careers project

Monroe Community College recently received funding to document opportunities for non-clinical health care careers, including customer service, billing and coding, and other back-end operations. This process will include facilitated focus groups with health care leaders who can speak about these positions.

Conference recording available on age-inclusive workforce strategies 

Funded by the NextFifty Initiative, this conference recording explores of the business case for hiring experienced employees (age 50+) and how employers can implement age-inclusive management strategies to compete for talent and address workforce shortages. These concepts are illustrated by successful workforce initiatives underway in Colorado.
