Workforce Updates

October 2022

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

The theme of this year's National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is “Disability: Part of the Equity Equation.” NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices. Check out the U.S. Department of Labor's 31 Days of NDEAM for ways that employers can support NDEAM.

You can also learn more about employing people with disabilities from two local resources:

  • Working Reality: Disability Justice and Employment. A new report authored by local disability justice expert, Luticha Andre Doucette, covers data and barriers to employment experienced by people with disabilities, and examples of what works for accommodation and inclusion. You can access the full report by clicking here and entering your email address. Accessible versions (audio and plain text) of the report are available by sending an email to: hello@catalystconsultingassociates.com.

Doucette is hosting a community summit on this theme on October 24 from 11:00AM - 4:00PM. At the summit, human resources professionals, recruiters, ADA coordinators, nonprofits, governments and small business owners will learn unique insights on how to ensure they can fully tap into an untapped market of ready, willing, talented and capable potential employees. Click here to register.

  • On October 28 at 11:00AM - 12:00PM, Strong Center for Development Disabilities is hosting a panel of industry leader to discuss hiring a diverse workforce including people with disabilities. Click here to register.
