Workforce Updates

October 2021

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

"America's Recovery: Powered by Inclusion" is the theme for this year's National Disability Employment Awareness Month, reflecting that while businesses struggle to fill vacancies, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities remains high.

Eleversity is offering the Right Talent, Right Now Symposium to discuss how embracing diversity and inclusion in your workforce can improve business outcomes. The symposium is comprised of two sessions:

  • Session 1: Diversity talent recruitment and retention: Current issues you need to know, will be held on October 7, 9-11:30 AM.
  • Session 2: The business value of inclusion, will be held on October 14, 9-11:30 AM.

SHRM and HRCI recertification credits are available for human resource professionals.

Mental health across the lifespan webinar

Genesee Valley Nurses Association is hosting a webinar entitled "Mental Health Across the Lifespan: A (Post) COVID Perspective" on October 7, 7-8:30 PM. Led by Dr. James Wallace and Ann Marie Cook, this webinar will cover COVID's effect on children and families and the geriatric population. It will also include a legislative perspective from Assemblywoman Jen Lunsford.

1.5 contact hours are available for nurses participating in this event.

Labor and employment law seminar scheduled

Phillips Lytle attorneys are offering a complimentary seminar to address legal issues facing employers this fall. The seminar will be held October 14, 8:30-11:30 AM at the Genesee Valley Club, and will cover issues such as:

  • Leaves in the COVID-19 Era
  • Vaccine mandates and policies
  • Cybersecurity trends and risks of remote work

Event attendees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received a negative COVID-19 test within the 72 hours prior to attending in-person events. Proof of vaccine or test results will be requested upon admittance.

This program has been submitted for pre-approval of approximately 2.5 credit hours with the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

Call for input: mental health support for the health care workforce

Mental Health America recently shared results from a national survey of health care workers that identified high levels of stress, anxiety, exhaustion and burnout throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We have heard this concern from many of our health care partners throughout the region.

We'd like to hear from you. Please reply to this email with any feedback or information about the following:

  • What is your organization doing to support the mental and emotional health of your workforce?
  • What services or supports would benefit your workforce/organization?
  • If you are a frontline worker, what types of support do you need?

This information will help Common Ground Health to understand current services and gaps in supporting health care professionals and support staff. We will continue to share opportunities for employers and employees.
