Unemployment Rate During COVID-19 Pandemic: Latino vs White

New York State

While millions of people were impacted by pandemic-related job losses in 2020, Latino residents were particularly hard-hit. Average unemployment rates in 2020 for New York state Latinos (14%) were nearly double that of non-Latino White residents (8%). Even as unemployment rates have gone down from pandemic-related highs in the second quarter 2020 and into 2021, the disparity in unemployment rates between White non-Latino residents and Latino residents is now larger than it was before the pandemic.
