Stroke Prevalence among Older Adults

Finger Lakes Region

This chart is based on BRFSS survey data and displays the percentage of older adults in the Finger Lakes who have ever been told that they have had a stroke. The "18+" bar enables a comparison of the older adults to the overall adult population. When comparing to the 18+ population, the percentages of adults aged 65-74 and 75+ who have had a stroke are approximately double.  According to the National Institute on Aging, stroke is a leading cause of death in the United States and a primary cause of substantial disability among adults.
