Poverty among Older Adults

Finger Lakes Region

This map displays the percentage of the 65+ population who is living below poverty level by ZIP code. While poverty among older adults is widespread throughout the region, there is a noticeable band of ZIP codes that starts in Steuben County and runs northeast to Wayne County where 8% or more of older adults (per ZIP code) live in poverty. Economic security and increasing poverty for older adults is a significant concern as cost of living continues to rise; even older adults with incomes above, or well above, the Federal Poverty Level are struggling to keep up with increasing costs of food, housing, utilities and health care.
