This map displays the percentage of those aged 65+ who live alone by ZIP code. Approximately 70% of regional ZIP codes have between 10-16% of their older adult residents living alone. Additionally, there are ZIP codes with higher concentrations scattered throughout many rural areas within the region. While the majority of older adults have others in the home to assist them as needed, the population shown here may need additional services to provide that same support. As we age, we become more prone to certain health conditions and disabilities that may challenge the ability to live independently; additional services and supports may be needed among this population to help prolong their ability to live independently and age in place.
