Mental Health Indicators, by Race and Latino Origin

Monroe County, New York - High School Students

Findings from the 2021-22 Monroe County Youth Risk Behavior survey show concerning mental health trends among our students. Approximately 1 out of every 3 students said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, their mental health was not good at least most of the time. Over a third of all students reported serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions because of mental or emotional challenges, with higher rates among Latino and White non-Latino students. Alarmingly, nearly 1 in 10 Latino students report that they have attempted suicide in the past year, a rate that is more than double that of their White non-Latino peers.
