Asthma among Older Adults

Finger Lakes Region

This chart is based on BRFSS survey data and displays the percentage of older adults in the Finger Lakes who have asthma. The "18+" bar enables a comparison of the older adults to the overall adult population. While there were no significant differences in prevalence between the four age groups presented, asthma still impacts between 8-13% of the older adult population within the region (depending on age). According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, older adults have more asthma symptoms and deaths than younger individuals, are less likely to get proper diagnosis and treatment, and also face socioeconomic issues that can impact their management of the condition.
