Arthritis among Older Adults

Finger Lakes Region

This chart is based on BRFSS survey data and displays the percentage of older adults in the Finger Lakes who have ever been told that they have arthritis. The "18+" bar enables a comparison of the older adults to the overall adult population. Among the older adult population, the 65-74 and 75+ age groups show higher likelihoods of reporting arthritis compared to those aged 55-64. Furthermore, older adults in general had a significantly higher prevalence of arthritis compared to the overall adult population (18+). According to the National Institute on Aging, arthritis can cause pain, stiffness and swelling in joints that can make it challenging, if not impossible depending on severity, to work or perform daily tasks.
