Launched in 2020, the Sage II Commission is updating the strategic vision and long-range 2010 Sage plan for meeting the needs of the burgeoning senior population in our region. Adults age 65 and older are the fastest growing demographic nationally and locally. By 2025, one in five people living in the Rochester-Finger Lakes region will be 65 or older.

To prepare for this demographic shift, Sage II is working to identify collaborative solutions for improving and coordinating essential senior services such as housing, transportation and caregiver support. The group’s objectives include:

  • expanding affordable housing options

  • enhancing support for family and informal caregivers

  • providing more transportation service for seniors

  • increasing providers who specialize in geriatric health

Ultimately, the commission aims to create accommodations that help seniors lead full and independent lives for as long as possible, regardless of income, race/ethnicity or where they live.
