The Regional Consortium on Health Care Workforce brings together decision makers and subject matter experts to address workforce challenges faced by health care providers in the Rochester-Finger Lakes region. Co-convened by the Finger Lakes Performing Provider System, the consortium has worked on a wide-range of issues, including increasing training, improving reimbursement and reducing shortages for key health care positions.

Current Focus

  • Home Health Aides – Common Ground is providing backbone support to a Regional Economic Development Council initiative to strengthen the home health aide workforce in Monroe and Ontario counties. Led by Catholic Family Center, the project provides standardized training, adult mentoring and career advancement opportunities aimed at improving recruitment and retention of home health aides at three home care agencies.

  • Oral Health – With funding from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, the Oral Health Ad Hoc Committee is piloting a school-based fluoride varnish and oral health education program in Schuyler County. The goal is to prevent early childhood caries in this community, which lacks fluoridation in the water and is a dental health professional shortage area.

Coordinating Planning Efforts

The consortium helps to connect and coordinate workforce initiatives with other local, regional and state organizations, including the Rochester Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative, New York State Education Department, the Regional Economic Development Council, and New York State Department of Health.
