The Empire State Trail Health Impact Assessment brings together more than 20 partners from state, county and local governments, as well as other organizations in Monroe, Orleans and Wayne counties. Their goal is to find ways to help more residents experience the health benefits of using the Erie Canalway trail in our region.

Perfect for walking, biking and jogging, the linear park holds great promise as a health resource, but not all resident groups are able to enjoy its benefits. Guided by rigorous data analysis and broad community input, this study develops recommendations for improving access for all residents—regardless of age, physical ability, gender, income, race or ethnicity.

The assessment will cover the Erie Canalway trail in Monroe, Orleans and Wayne counties. The canal trail is part of New York’s larger Empire State Trail, which connects 750 miles of pathways from Buffalo to Albany and New York City to the Canadian border, forming the longest multi-use trail in the nation.
