New training available from FLPPS

FLPPS has launched a new Training eCourse: Foundational Training for Community Organizations. The 5 interactive eLearning modules take 10-15 minutes each and cover the following topics:

• An Introduction to Health Literacy
• An Introduction to Cultural Competency in Healthcare
• An Introduction to Value-Based Healthcare
• Value-based Care in New York and the Finger Lakes
• An Introduction to the Social Determinants of Health

NIHCM health care workforce webinar series

The National Institute for Health Care Management is hosting a Health Care Workforce 2021 workforce series focusing on the role of health care professionals in the pandemic response. The first session, Nurses on the Frontline, will be held February 22 at 2:00 PM. Click here to register. 

Other topics covered in this series include: the role of community health workers and pharmacists in the response to COVID-19, and physician burnout exacerbated by the pandemic. 

Telemental health virtual conference

The Telehealth Certification Institute is offering a 3-day virtual summit entitled Telemental Health Tailored to Your Practice on March 22-24. The summit will cover emerging trends in telemental health and how practices can offer services to diverse patient populations. Continuing education credits are available for licensed professional counselors, licensed mental health counselors, social workers and psychologists.

Nurse practitioner diversity report

The Center for Health Workforce Studies at University at Albany has released a report of diversity in the nurse practitioner workforce in New York State. Findings include:

• In the Finger Lakes region, Latinx NPs (2%) are underrepresented compared to their population (7%).
• Black NPs are better represented state-wide, but are underrepresented in the Finger Lakes region (3% of NPs are Black, while Black people represent 10% of the population).
• Black and Latinx NPs complete their training at older ages than white NPs.
